The Conjoint Marketing Group’s CEO, Rhett Lego gives regular lectures on destination and tourism marketing at academies and business schools in Germany, including the Angell Akademie Freiburg, DHBW Loerrach and the International Business School Nürnberg.
He explains why:
"When I did my MBA, we had visiting lecturers from senior positions in industry, government and social organisations. These people were some of the best people I had present to me during my MBA.
The old adage ‘Those who can, do, those who can’t, teach’ instilled in me the strong belief that the benefit of having people presenting who have actually implemented the theory cannot be beaten. They were inspirational for me—and I promised myself that when experience, time and ability allowed I would try to put back into the education of tomorrow’s leaders’ some of my insights and experiences.
I think I often get more out of it often that the students do. It keeps me in touch with trends and issues facing tourism students – which I see as valuable exposure. I also use the opportunity that my lecturing gigs offer to recruit for practical placements with Team TCMG at out Munich office.
I get a big kick in presenting the theory of tourism and viral marketing in the context of Australia as a destination. So many students who do the course have a dream about visiting Australia, and the lectures have often been the motivation for students to travel to Australia upon completion of their course. That alone makes the effort so worthwhile."
Rhett’s lectures at one day, two day and three day courses, and sometimes presents together with Christiane Empter-Zanotti who was the marketing manager in Germany for Tourism Queensland for many years
